My Prayer for 2013
In pursuit of spiritual growth, here's my personal prayer for the coming year:
1: God would be my first love — I want God to be my all-satisfying treasure. I desire to be jealous for His exclusive supremacy over all of my affections.
You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. - Psalms 73:24-26
2: Increase my faith — I want an unshakable confidence in God's incomparable power, assured that it is only & always wielded for my absolute good in Christ.
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. - Romans 8:28-30
3: Magnify my joy in the gospel — I desire a joy that abandons all else in sight of the riches of Jesus' grace and that firmly yet gladly cries: "I'll go anywhere, do anything if you are there!"
And he said, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." And he said to him, "If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here. - Exodus 33:14-15
5: Soften my stoney heart — I want God to rescue me from cynicism and bitterness. I want a tender heart, quick to feel God's presence in the complicated and mundane parts of life. I want to be an ambassador of mercy to all, regardless of circumstances.
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, - Hebrews 1:3
6: Give me wisdom — I want to see dimensions of reality that I would normally overlook or misinterpret. and accompany my vision with a gentle, quiet spirit that feels safe and celebrated.
but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious. -1 Peter 3:4
7: Make me a helpmate & adornment of pride to my husband - I want to shower Justin with love, filling every moment we are together with indescribable joy! I want to preemptively meet his needs, pray for him earnestly and consistently, and serve him in all things.
An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all." -Proverbs 31:10-12, 25-26, 28-29
8: Overcome me with Jesus — I desire to be new creature in Christ. . . No longer ruled by selfish ambitions but alive in Christ, forever.
So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. - Romans 6:11 ESV
