The passive heart never is to blame for anything he does

"For you notice that it is only for our bad behavior that we find all these explanations. It is only our bad temper that we put down to being tired or worried or hungry; we put our good temper down to ourselves." - Mere Christianity, page 8, by C.S. Lewis

Way to go C.S. Lewis in clearly and succinctly outlining the passive vs. active heart discussed in Steps every week! I'm so good at self-deception that most of the time I don't even realize I'm making excuses for my sin, blaming circumstances instead of my wicked heart. But then I get ALL of the credit when I do something good?! So unfair... And yet God's grace still abounds toward me even in the midst of my blindness, arrogance, and self-centered heart. What an awesome God He is!
