A letter to Jude on his 4th Birthday

Dearest Judester,

You're four and I am floored (sorry for the corny, approximate pun). Every year you get bigger, smarter, sweeter, funnier, and dare I say, zanier. That's what I love about you, though: you're endless excitement for life. . . and chocolate cupcakes.

You were so happy this week that it was your birthday and you were going to eat chocolate cupcakes at the splash park, play with your friends, then eat chocolate cupcakes at school. Pretty much all that you've talked about this week is chocolate cupcakes. Yeah, you really like chocolate.

You've said the funniest things this year, things I have to write down because I never want to forget them. Here are a few of my all-time favorites:

What do I tell you now that you're four? I don't feel like I have any wisdom to give, especially not these days when I wake dazed, rush to work, and spend my days in a frenzy of conflicting projects and deadlines. I feel 8 parts employee, with only 1 part wife and 1 part mom left for my poor family. So I'll give you the best advice from the wisest man:

"" The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. " (‭Proverbs‬ ‭9‬:‭10‬ ESV)

Fear The Lord, Jude. Fear him like a huge, protective wolf. Stay close to Him and he will guard your life. His chase and wrath are equally terrifying and beautiful. That's a bad analogy, but I hope you get my drift.

Love our God, and all else will fall away to the periphery. He is central. He is ultimate. Treasure Him and infinite joys will flood your life (since He himself is our ultimate, endless pleasure). I understand this more now that I am a mother than I ever did as a singleton (pun intended). Just you, you in and of yourself, produce such joy in my heart. I love you so much, Puppy!

Blessings and kisses,
